About Us
Terrell's Carnegie Library
The Terrell Heritage Museum is housed in one of the city's most treasured landmarks—the historic Carnegie Library. Built through a grant from philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, the library was established to provide free access to knowledge, education, and lifelong learning for the people of Terrell.
The cornerstone for the building was laid in September 1903, and the library officially opened its doors to the public in March 1904. For more than 80 years, it served as Terrell's public library, welcoming generations of residents who came to read, study, and discover new ideas.
In 1986, the city's library moved to a new facility to better serve Terrell's growing population. The historic Carnegie building was then preserved as the home of the Terrell Heritage Museum, ensuring that this remarkable landmark would continue its original purpose as a place of learning, discovery, and community.
Today, the museum carries that legacy forward by preserving the stories, artifacts, and memories that define Terrell's history. Just as the Carnegie Library once connected people through books, the Terrell Heritage Museum now connects our community through shared history, education, and storytelling.

The Terrell Heritage Museum preserves and shares the history of our community through the collection, conservation, and interpretation of artifacts, photographs, documents, and oral histories.
